Friday update: (this one's long, so bear with us)
As I mentioned in our last post, we did evacuate with many of our animals, with the cows and goats going to a farm in the town of Eagle Creek, about 30 minutes south of us, and then we went to my mom's with all four dogs, our cat, and the rabbits.
Everyone is doing fine, and we even slept in our own beds last night! One of our livestock guardian dogs, Athena, was having a meltdown trying to adjust to city life, so we brought the dogs and a few of our senior goats home so she'd have a job to do. We are still in a level 2 evacuation zone, so we wanted to have few enough animals here so we could load them up ourselves and get out again if we had to.
We have been brought to tears many times from all the kindness and generosity on display throughout this ordeal, and I want to mention some of them here (if you know of others, please mention them), as they deserve as much support and thanks as you can give:
First of all, my mom, for housing us and our dogs (no small feat)
The Cross family has been amazing in opening their farm to our animals, the photo here is our makeshift cow milking area.
We have had so many offers of help from friends, family, and farm customers; it's been a little overwhelming. We even have people who are insisting on paying for the products we are not able to provide this week!
Sound Equine Options was incredible, as they helped coordinate the evacuation of hundreds of animals in Corbett. If you want to donate monetarily, they would be a great option.
Union Mills Feed called us and offered to deliver whatever feed we needed. They also brought feed to the animals that were being housed at the Clackamas County Fair & Event Center
Wilco (farm supply cooperative) also delivered supplies to the fairgrounds
Multnomah County Animal Services was amazing in helping get our animals loaded onto trailers, and they even took in Scooter, our paralyzed goat, to the animal shelter where she unsurprisingly become a favorite of everyone on the staff there.
Clark County Animal Protection and Control transported 10 of our goats to their temporary home
Multnomah County Sheriff's Office has been instrumental in keeping us all notified and ensuring the safety of our community
Corbett School District has housed and fed the firefighters
Corbett Country Market, Riverview Restaurant, Walking Man Brewing, Thunder Island Brewing Company have all offered to feed firefighters and/or evacuees (I'm sure many more restaurants have as well)
Mt. Hood Community College provided evacuation space for people and their pets.
And of course, Corbett Fire District 14 and all the other fire agencies from all over the northwest who are here helping protect so many lives!
I'm sure there are more, I'll add to this as they come to me. ... See more
